Children’s privacy

Our commitment

Kidslen exists to help parents and children talk about what they watch. Because the child is the person whose activity is collected, we hold ourselves to a higher standard than a typical app. This page describes those rules in plain language; it complements our privacy policy.

Verifiable parental consent

Only a verified parent or guardian account can enroll a child. Enrollment requires the parent to be signed in on the dashboard, to generate a one-time code, and to complete pairing on the child’s device. We record who consented, when, and which version of the transparency screen was shown. We do not collect any personal data from a child before this consent exists.

Transparency to the child

• A permanent “monitored by <parent>” banner is always visible while the companion app is installed.
• A transparency screen lists in child-friendly language what is shared, with whom, and for how long.
• The child can see the same policies (limits, bedtime, blocked platforms, keyword alerts) that the parent sees.
• There is no hidden, stealth or silent mode, and the app cannot be renamed or disguised.

Data minimization

We collect only what is needed to show watch time and enforce family policies: content titles, platform, timestamps, durations and search terms; on Android, the minutes each app was in the foreground; and, only while a location consent is active, the phone’s position about every 15 minutes with its accuracy and battery level. We do not collect screen recordings, private messages, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. A child profile needs only a first name or nickname and an age band.

Retention and deletion

Activity data is kept for a limited period (90 days by default) and then deleted automatically. Parents can export or delete everything in one click, and a child can ask a parent — or us — to delete their data. When a child profile is deleted, all of its activity and consent records go with it.

No selling, no advertising, no profiling

We do not sell children’s data, share it with advertisers, or use it to build profiles. Kidslen contains no ads and no third-party tracking SDKs.

Legal frameworks

Our practices are designed to meet COPPA (United States), GDPR Article 8 and the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, and Vietnam’s Decree 13/2023/ND-CP on personal data protection. Where local law sets a different age of digital consent, we follow the stricter rule.

For children

If you are a kid using Kidslen: your parent can see which videos you watch and for how long. They cannot read your messages or see your screen. You can always open the Kidslen app to see exactly what is shared, and you can talk to your parent about any rule. If something feels wrong, you can also write to us at [email protected].
